Food and Chemical Effects on Acid/Alkaline Body Chemical Balance
People consuming the typical Western diet consume an over-abundance of dietary acids (e.g. meat, dairy - especially cheese, cooked grains, nuts, etc) which can cause an imbalance in the blood's PH range (between 7.35 - 7.45). Acid wastes can attack joints, muscles, tissues, organs and glands and an imbalance between acid and alkaline levels can lead to long-term health problems.
The body, in its attempt to maintain a balanced PH level will leach the alkaline mineral calcium from the bones and boron from the muscles. In addition to bone and muscle loss, other health problems can include weight gain or inability to lose weight, atherosclerosis, arthritis, mild hypothyroidism, decreased physical endurance and strength, and longer recovery time.
Adding more plant foods (leafy greens, fruits, and vegetables), which are naturally high alkaline forming foods, act as powerful acid-neutralizers.
